Two new hydrogen/electric semi trucks will be unveiled at Nikola World, a two-day event in Scottsdale, Arizona that will include public demos of the Nikola Two; and a first look at the Nikola Tre.
The smaller Nikola Tre is intended for the European market, where it will fit better on smaller roads and cover relatively shorter distances between cities.
The truck boasts 500 to 1,000 horsepower in a 6×2 or 6×4 configuration, with a range between 500 and 1,200 kilometres.
The production-spec Nikola Two, targeted at the U.S. market, will also be on display.
The trucks have impressive features, including redundant braking, redundant steering, redundant 800-volt
DC batteries, and a redundant 120-kW hydrogen fuel cell.
The company says these systems are necessary for level five autonomy, which would enable the trucks to fully drive themselves. Both trucks will be available in either hydrogen or fully electric variants.

To support the trucks, Nikola also hopes to build a network of more than 700 hydrogen stations across the U.S. and Canada by 2028.
While Nikola has mostly flown under the radar so far, it's been around for a while, and unveiled its first electric truck, the Nikola One, back in 2016. Production of the U.S.-specification trucks is expected to begin in 2022 or 2023.
